Red Star Elite Week 2025 is delighted to announce that Coach Gary Carter is returning to Leeds after 6 years.

Coach Carter was one of the first members of staff appointed when we launched the Red Star Camp in the UK in 2018. Having worked at the prestigious Red Star Sports School in Železnik as a young coach, he spent two years embedded in the programme, working with Red Star youth teams as an Assistant Coach and has a strong knowledge of the Serbian Basketball School & Curriculum.
Gary has been the figurehead and architect of the Huish Taunton Tigers Academy and has an exceptional ability to teach fundamental aspects of the game.
Director Matt Newby was warmed by the prospect of returning a trusted and respected member of the Red Star Basketball fraternity:
"Gary is a well-rounded and experienced Coach whose own personal journey has seen him benefit from mentorship and development from within the Serbian Basketball School. His passion and commitment to the game means he has worked tirelessly to develop basketball in the South West of England and I am excited to see him return to the floor with the same energy and vigour that has made him successful throughout the last decade.
Ahead of the inaugural Elite Week Camp in 2025, Gary Carter, the former England U15s Assistant Coach was excited to be back on the floor in a Red Star shirt:
“I am delighted to return to the Red Star family in Leeds. There is no other camp like it in the UK for teaching basketball and bringing an elite group of coaches together.
It’s a privilege to work alongside Coach Newby and be a part of the coaching staff for the first ever Elite Week in the UK.
10 spaces were just added for this year's Elite Week Camp - Prospective athletes should apply now.
