Red Star Basketball Camp UK is delighted to announce that the Nationwide Officials Camp will return to Red Star Camp 2025 for the fourth year in a row.

The Nationwide Referees Camp is a residential camp that takes place in conjunction with Red Star Basketball Camp UK. The camp offers focused learning and development for officials covering a wide range of topics both in a classroom and on-court environment. Referees will officiate camp games each day and receive feedback on game performance to aid their own learning and development. The Camp supports Basketball England's objective to develop officials and identify talent, and is an opportunity for individuals to showcase their skills and improve their craft as officials.
As with the players, the referees that participate have the motivation to improve their playing calling skills and Leeds remains one of the few venues in Europe that brings in referees for the camp games. Referee Camp Instructor Richard Stokes leads a team that includes Alan Richardson, former FIBA Referee, FIBA and Euroleague Referee Instructor and Roger Harrison also a former FIBA and Euroleague Referee who holds the record for having refereed the highest number of English National League games. Richard himself headed up the FIBA Europe Referees and was Director of Euroleague Officials, as well as working with leagues and federations around the world.
The camp is designed for and targeted to aspiring Level 3 and 4 referees, and aspiring Level 3 and 4 Table officials, while also welcoming applications from oversees referees.
Both residential and non-residential options are available with catering provided, and participants have the option to pay in full or split the cost over 5 equal monthly instalments.
Residential Price - £549
Non-Residential Price - £349
Richard Stokes, Camp Director was buoyed by the announcement of a return to Red Star Camp UK 2025:
"I saw first-hand these types of teaching camps in the USA when I was a young referee and they were invaluable to my development. To have the opportunity to do the same here is fantastic, especially with what we consider to be the premier player camp in the UK. We have been a small part of the player camp’s development, but in doing so it has enabled us to work with a large number of referees who have gone to referee in the NBL, Super League Basketball and beyond. The format of this camp, and the unique experiences and insights that the instructors can share with the referees, offers a great opportunity for aspiring referees to help them fulfil their potential and reach their goals. A number of previous campers have gone to their Level 3 and Level 4 awards, and I am sure some of them can achieve even greater heights. With Alan, Roger and the staff, we look forward to working with this year’s referees again and pushing them to levels of excellence.”
Candobasketball & Nationwide Camp founder and instructor, Alan Richardson has been running the camp since 1993 and was more excited than ever to continue his legacy of developing officials both domestically and internationally:
"Since experiencing these types of teaching camps in the USA some years ago, I wanted to run something similar for referees on this side of the Atlantic. We have been part of the development of a huge number of referees that have gone on to excel at national and international level, both here in the UK and overseas. We are proud of what we have helped officials achieve in the last 30 years. The best referee camp married with the best player camp in the UK will be a perfect match again."
Roger Harrison was delighted to return once again and provide an exemplary contribution to the aspiring officials:
In 2025 Red Star Basketball Camp will again host the Nationwide Referee Camp for referees to improve their skills to progress the officiating ladder. The camp is aimed at Level 2 and 3 officials who want to make a step to the next level. The camp is run by 3 of the most experienced British referees and Instructors who all have led camps and clinics all over the world. The camp consists of classroom and on court sessions with the Instructors who will share their knowledge and experience to enable the officials to move forward to improve. The camp is is great camp for the officials to learn from the best to improve their officiating skills to help them reach their goal.
Red Star Camp Director Matt Newby was steadfast on the importance of this aspect of the Red Star experience:
"Our mission at Red Star Camp UK is to provide an Elite environment for our campers. Our partnership with Basketball England and Candobasketball ensures that the game-play element of our camp is of the highest standard. The opportunity for up and coming officials to get this level of tutoring and feedback from those that have officiated at the highest level is unique. We are very proud that we can continue to contribute to the development of officials, which the domestic game truly needs. I would like to thank Richard, Alan & Roger for committing to this project once again."
