BBL Legend brings incredible experience and perspective to Elite Week 2025.

James Quinn

Red Star Elite Week 2025 is delighted to announce that Coach Charles Smith will join us this summer in Leeds.

As a standout performer in the UK and European ranks, Coach Smith has undertaken a tenure at Birmingham Rockets this season following an extensive recruitment process and has had an immediate impact on the rising NBL D1 programme. A popular member of our staff with both our coaches and players, he lends his extensive experience wholesale to the development and progression of the young people. His personality and devotion to the game are critical to developing players who will be successful at an elite level.

Director Matt Newby was incredibly happy that we could returm Coach Smith:

"Charles brings a lifetime of experience on the court and a unique perspective as he steps into the coaching domain. His identity on the court was as a high level scorer, but that is born from a high IQ and incredible work ethic which makes him a formidable role model for our campers. On witnessing his engagement with our campers in the last two years, I genuinely feel that he is not just an elite asset but an elite asset for those who want to do it better than the rest."

Ahead of the inaugural Elite Week Camp in 2025, Coach Smith was excited to return to Leeds:

“I’m excited to be a part of the first ever Red Star Elite Week Camp… It’s a great opportunity for these players to learn from the best coaches in the country and to compete against other elite players. I look forward to this exciting new experience."

There are just 15 places remaining on this year's Elite Week Camp - Prospective athletes should apply now.
